Curriculum Overview
Plan of Study
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing curriculum integrates natural sciences, social sciences, and nursing sciences to prepare students for professional nursing practice.
The program develops competencies in:
- clinical decision making
- critical thinking
- health promotion and disease prevention
- patient-centered care
- research-based nursing practice
Simulation and Clinical Skills Laboratories
The Nursing Program at the Metropolitan Campus integrates simulation-based learning environments that replicate real clinical scenarios, strengthening students’ decision-making, technical competence, and patient-centered care.
Through high-fidelity simulation experiences, students practice essential nursing skills before entering clinical settings. These laboratories allow students to develop confidence, clinical judgment, and teamwork in a safe learning environment.
Laboratory experiences include:
- patient assessment and monitoring
- medication administration procedures
- emergency response simulations
- clinical decision-making scenarios
- interdisciplinary team collaboration
Simulation exercises recreate hospital and community healthcare situations, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to realistic patient care scenarios.
This experiential learning approach prepares students to enter clinical environments with the competence, confidence, and professional judgment required for safe nursing practice.

Clinical Practice Locations
Students in the Nursing Program complete supervised clinical experiences at a variety of healthcare institutions throughout the San Juan metropolitan area. These experiences expose students to diverse patient populations and healthcare systems. - Hospital Universitario de Adultos
- Hospital Pediátrico Universitario
- Hospital Auxilio Mutuo – San Juan
- Hospital Pavía – Santurce
- Hospital Pavía – Hato Rey
- Doctors’ Center Hospital – Carolina
- Doctors’ Center Hospital – Bayamón
- HIMA San Pablo – Caguas
- Hospital Menonita – Caguas
- VA Caribbean Healthcare System – San Juan
- Community health centers and outpatient clinics
These clinical partnerships enable students to gain experience across multiple areas, including acute care, pediatrics, community health, and specialized services.
