Medical Technology (BA)

This program aims to provide academic instruction of excellence by preparing medical technologists or clinical laboratory scientists with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required of entry-level professionals in the field of clinical laboratory science. It also seeks to develop individuals who are capable of communicating and interacting effectively with patients, peers, and other healthcare professionals. The program promotes the application of moral and ethical principles in compliance with the laws governing laboratories and the medical technology profession. Students will be trained to perform in various settings and serve as entrepreneurial professionals, clinical instructors, consultants, supervisors, administrators, educators, and researchers, among others, through an innovative curriculum that encourages clinical research.

Knowledge

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles and methodologies of laboratory services across all major areas performed in the clinical laboratory.

  • Interpret the principles and practices of administration, supervision, quality assessment, instrumentation, educational methodologies, safety, regulations, and laws relevant to laboratory sciences.

Skills

  • Evaluate the fundamental concepts of clinical chemistry, hematology and hemostasis, immunology, blood banking, microbiology, urinalysis, and body fluids to correlate them with laboratory test analysis and decision-making.

  • Provide solutions to problems related to laboratory testing procedures.

  • Evaluate processes to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results through statistical methods.

  • Design research and clinical study projects with the purpose of disseminating results.

Attitudes

  • Apply ethical principles and demonstrate a commitment to professional development.

  • Serve patients, the public, and members of the healthcare team by applying effective communication skills.
